Our equality, diversity and inclusion team

We believe that the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion are central to our work as an effective regulator and employer. They are inherent in our values, which are to be fearless, independent, transparent, ambitious, collaborative, and to act with integrity.

To continue this commitment, we're working with subject matter experts and our steering group to develop our ambitious plans and to hold us to account as a regulator and employer.

We look forward to working with Ahmina and Rohan as we continue our important work around equality, diversity and inclusion.

Ahmina Akhtar

Head of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (from 4 May 2021)

Ahmina has been part of the Social Work England team as the regional engagement lead for Yorkshire and the Humber, and we’re pleased to announce we will welcome her as our head of equality, diversity and inclusion from 4 May 2021.

In this role, Ahmina will work to raise the profile of equality, diversity and inclusion across our organisation, providing advice, support and constructive challenge. She will also develop and implement our equality, diversity and inclusion strategy, plans and policies, having already played a key part in championing equality, diversity and inclusion in her role as regional engagement lead for Yorkshire and the Humber.

Ahmina qualified as a social worker in 2008. She completed an MA in Integrated Practice in 2017 and is also a qualified trainer and coach. Before joining us as regional engagement lead, her last role was as senior practitioner at the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse. Ahmina previously worked for Changing Faces and was pivotal in setting up the first localised support centre outside of London in Sheffield. She established various support clinics throughout Yorkshire and the Humber to offer tailored support to individuals affected by disfigurement. Prior to this she worked in several educational, community, voluntary and health settings. She is also on several boards where she is instrumental in driving strategic and cultural change.
