Non-executive director appointment
The Department for Education, as our sponsor department, leads on recruitment of non-executive directors to our board, in accordance with the Governance Code on Public Appointments.
Following recent board appointments, the Department for Education are now looking to appoint 3 non-executive directors to Social Work England’s board, across a range of skills and experience including:
- digital strategy, including data management and data analytics to derive insights and trends
- commercial experience
- education experience, specifically strategic experience of developing professional educational model
Among these 3 positions, the Department for Education, are looking to appoint a non-executive director with specific responsibility as chair of the board’s Audit and Risk Assurance (ARAC) Committee. This would suit someone with senior financial management and accounting experience, including audit and procurement expertise, or having previously chaired an audit and risk assurance committee.
The Department for Education is focused on equality of opportunity and committed to ensuring that public appointments better represent the communities which they serve. They particularly encourage applicants from:
- underrepresented groups
- those based outside London and the South-East
- applicants who have achieved success through non-traditional educational routes.
The positions are for up to 25 days per year (+5 additional days for ARAC Chair). There is a degree of flexibility around start dates, but it is expected successful candidates take up their positions in either April or May 2025.
The deadline for applications is 1pm on 3 January 2025.
More information, including details on how to apply, can be found on the Public Appointment website.
Board Apprentice scheme
We are also pleased to confirm that we will once again be a host board on the UK Boardroom Apprentice scheme.
Boardroom Apprentice is a 12-month unique board learning, development and placement programme. It enables people who would like to serve on a board, but who may not normally get the opportunity, to gain skills, experience and knowledge. It seeks to enable a wider diversity of individuals to play their part in UK boardrooms.
The deadline for applications to the Boardroom Apprentice scheme is 4pm on 18 November 2024.
More information, including details on how to apply, can be found on the Boardroom Apprentice scheme website.
