If you qualified as a social worker before the introduction of the social work degree, and you no longer have your certificate, you can apply for a letter which will verify that you have the relevant qualification.
Check your qualification is eligible for a verification letter
Information included in the letter
The verification letter includes:
- your name (as it was at the time of qualification)
- details of your qualification
- where you obtained the qualification
- when you obtained the qualification
The letter is not proof of identity. It is also not proof of Social Work England registration. It is the employer’s responsibility to check your identity and whether you are registered with one of the four UK social work regulators.
Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland
Approved qualifications obtained in Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland are the responsibility of:
- Social Care Wales
- Northern Ireland Social Care Council (NISCC)
- Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC)
Apply for a verification letter
The verification service normally takes up to 20 working days. During busy periods we will tell you if is likely to take longer.
We will only issue letters of verification at your request, but you can ask us to send the letter of verification directly to an employer or employment agency.
