You have not recorded valid CPD

This page is designed to help people who do not have valid continuous professional development (CPD) on their online account.

You have not recorded valid CPD

Your registration is at risk, record CPD now

You have been directed to this page because our records show that, currently, you do not meet the CPD requirement for this registration year.

This could be because:

  1. You have not recorded any CPD yet
  2. Your CPD record is still in draft
  3. Your CPD record has an incorrect date
  4. Your CPD record has already been used to renew your registration last year

If you want to apply to renew your registration you must record at least one piece of valid CPD on your online account before 30 November 2021. If you fail to do that, you risk being removed from the register.

This page is designed to help you identify the problem and fix it. Please read the following information carefully and take action now to make sure you can successfully apply to renew your registration.

Why you have received this message

1. You have not recorded any CPD yet

If you have not recorded any CPD on your online account, we urge you to do it now. Do not leave it until the last minute. You must record at least one piece of CPD in your online account dated between 1 December 2020 and 30 November 2021 (the current registration year).

Who should record CPD?

The requirement to do and record CPD applies to all registered social workers. This includes people who are:

  • on extended leave (for example maternity, paternity, adoption or long-term sick leave)
  • not currently working (for example unemployed)
  • newly registered social workers

This is because anyone on the register can practise using the protected title ‘social worker’.

Action you need to take: record CPD now
  1. Log in to your Social Work England account.
  2. Go to the section ‘Your CPD’ and select ‘CPD overview.’
  3. Record CPD using either the structured or unstructured form.
  4. When you’re ready, submit your CPD using the button at the end of the form.

2. Your CPD record is still in draft

You may have started one or more draft pieces of CPD on your online account. You need to finish and submit at least one piece of CPD before 30 November 2021 if you want to apply to renew your registration.

Action you need to take: submit your draft CPD
  1. Log in to your Social Work England account.
  2. Go to the section ‘Your CPD’ and select ‘CPD overview.’
  3. Find ‘CPD summary’ at the end of the page.
  4. Select ‘Edit’ next to the draft piece of CPD you want to submit.
  5. Review your CPD record to make sure you are ready to submit.
  6. Submit your CPD record using the button at the end of the form.

3. Your CPD record has an incorrect date

If you’re receiving emails telling you to record CPD, this could be because the date on your CPD record is incorrect.

CPD must be dated between 1 December 2020 and 30 November 2021 (the current registration year) otherwise it will not count when you apply to renew your registration.

Action to take: amend the date on your CPD record or record another piece of CPD
  1. Log in to your Social Work England account.
  2. Go to the section ‘Your CPD’ and select ‘CPD overview.’
  3. Find ‘CPD summary’ at the end of the page.
  4. Select ‘Edit’ to open the CPD record.
  5. Check the date you have entered for your CPD record. If you have entered an incorrect date by mistake, change the date so it is between 1 December 2020 and 30 November 2021. The CPD will then be valid for registration renewal.
  6. If you intended to record CPD with a date outside the current registration year, you do not need to change the date. Instead, you need to record a new piece of CPD with a date between 1 December 2020 and 30 November 2021.

4. Your CPD record has already been used to renew your registration last year

If you failed to meet the CPD deadline last year (30 November 2020) you had an extra 21 days (until 21 December 2020) to record CPD.

The CPD you recorded during the 21-day period was used as your one piece of CPD for last year’s registration renewal. This means it can’t be used again for your registration renewal this year.

Action to take: record more CPD

You need to record at least one more piece of CPD by 30 November 2021 to meet the CPD requirement for registration renewal this year.

  1. Log in to your Social Work England account.
  2. Go to the section ‘Your CPD’ and select ‘CPD overview.’
  3. Record CPD using either the structured or unstructured form.
  4. When you’re ready, submit your CPD using the button at the end of the form.
