Failed to record valid CPD

This information is for people who submitted an application to renew their registration but did not record any valid continuing professional development (CPD) by 30 November 2020.

You have 21 days to record CPD

This information is for people who submitted an application to renew their registration but did not record any valid continuing professional development (CPD) by 30 November 2020.

By ‘valid CPD’ we mean:

  • CPD that was ‘submitted’ (rather than ‘saved as draft’)
  • CPD with a date between 2 December 2019 and 30 November 2020 (2019/20 registration year)

All social workers who want to renew their registration must provide evidence of CPD before 30 November every year. This is a requirement of your registration and in accordance with rule 50(1) of the Social Work England (Registration) Rules 2019.

When you completed your application to renew your registration, we asked you to confirm that you would record CPD by 30 November 2020.

If our records show that you did not record any valid CPD for the 2019/20 registration year, you will have an additional 21 days to record CPD.

What you need to do

Log in to your online account and record CPD as soon as possible.

You must record CPD by 11.59pm (GMT) on 21 December 2020. If you do not record CPD by this deadline, your registration will not be renewed.

CPD dates

Your CPD needs to be recorded with a date between 2 December 2019 and 30 November 2020 to be valid. Do not put the current date in the ‘Date of CPD’ field. Your CPD will not be accepted unless it has a date between 2 December 2019 and 30 November 2020.

If you fail to record CPD by 21 December

If you do not record CPD on your online account by 11.59pm (GMT) on 21 December 2020, your registration will not be renewed.

Normally this would mean that your status on the register would change to ‘No longer registered – failure to renew’ and you would be unable to use the title ‘social worker’ in England.

All those who have not renewed their registration this year, including those who failed to record valid CPD, will now be given temporary registration status. Under the powers given to us by government, temporary registration remains in place for as long as it is required during the pandemic.

However, we strongly recommend that social workers who want to return to the register apply to restore their registration as soon as possible. If you left the register for failure to provide CPD, we will request this as part of your restoration application.
